Project 3 Photo

After much trouble with my model and having to have it reprinted here is the photo of it. I really like how it looks as though its glowing in this shot. I decided not to treat it in anyway as it wouldnt have added anything to it and I like the translucent qualities the resin takes. It was very stressfull over these last few days but Im very pleased with how its come out.

Project 3 Reflections

My precidents werent my main source of inspiration and Im very alright with that. The pattern I made was great to use and it produced some great results. I was influenced by the repeating aspect of fractals which helped in coming up with my pattern but overall it has been the 2 projects before that ultimatly lead to where my designs are now.

Project 3 Model Render

Heres my render of all three models. I went for a very dark, grey and industrial look. For the render I was inspired by the curves and spikes within my created pattern and they reminded me of wrought iron fences so I decided to work with that look and I think its come out with some great looking results

Project 3 3D Print design

Heres the design I chose to have printed. I really like the twists and the empty piece in the centre is one of my favourite features. I havent fully decided how to treat it but Ill figure it out when I get it back from being printed.

Project 3

A few more digital models

Project 3

Before I started investigating my precidents further I wanted to play around with a pattern I created during the last project from part of my laser cut profile

Then using the idea of repeating I came up with a few 3ds models mostly to see how it came out in 3d form

mostly just for experimentation, but I do like the idea of different points of rotation as in the top two

Project 3

Ok, for this project I have decided that I shall do my blog as I do the project instead of at the end so here I go.
I started at looking at patterns , mostly wallpapers at first then some graffiti art and then fractals and naturally occouring fractals and natural maths patterns and I compiled a few images that Ill use as precidents.

Project 2 Laser cut model

Heres my laser cut model, It took me quite a while to assemble as the tabs and slots are quite small. I also had some trouble with tabs breaking off. Thankfully they werent vital to the model and dont affect it when I completed it. I think It looks great and Im very pleased with how its turned out.

Project 2 Model render

This is the render of my models starting point

Project two fourth post

I created a revised digital model to show all the different parts and where the joins would be.
the grey disks are parts where tabs from from the main model pieces slot into to hol it in place.
The disks will be made out of acrylic as with the light blue parts. the green will be card

Project 2 third post

I started doing sketch models to design a join for my models

I mixed the two of my last sketch models for the joins. Using tabs that Stick out into disks to hold the peices in place was the most apropriate method of joining my final laser cut model.

Project 2 second post

From that model I took a 2d view of one of the four pieces that make up the model and photoshopped  it.
From here I developed it using solid works and 3ds max and created a few digital drafts.

Its this model here that I chose to develop. What I then thought about was how to attach the pieces together.

Project 2 first post

So for this project the model I decided to develop from project 1 was my 80th model as my 81st is unsuitable for this project. The curves make it undesirable to laser cut. Heres a quick render of it

I have used all three of these as my design precedents

Final Model

This is my final render. I chose not to use a background as it subtracted from the complexity of the model and it lost its elegance when placed anywhere.

All 81

12th Development

This was my 80th development, the one right before my final. I really like this one but not as much as my final.

11th Development

Here is where I started duplicating my model and combining them which came out with some very sinister looking results

10th Development

Another one of my models that I quite like

9th Development

Heres where I was creating my favourite models. towards the end of my 81 when I had decent skills and had a vision for what I wanted it to turn out like
